Like all sources of energy there are both positive and negative issues relating to wind and its effect on the environment.

Positive Effects:

  • By far the most important issue is the very positive effect of eliminating the emission of greenhouse gases.
  • Wind power is very effective in the reduction of air pollution, as contrasted with the pollution from burning fossil fuels.

Negative effects:

  • Opponents point out the danger to birds and bats, which can be killed or injured by the rotating turbine blades.
  • There are those who feel that there are distracting, distressing noise levels associated with the turbine operation.
  • The aesthetics of wind turbine farms meets with mixed reviews, accepted and enjoyed by some, deeply opposed by others.
