HGL Consumption

Uses of HGL

Hydrocarbon gas liquids have many uses:

  • Ethane is used as the raw material (feedstock) for the production of ethylene and as a fuel for power generation. Ethane is also used to produce plastics, detergents and anti-freeze.

  • Propane is used as a fuel for water and space heating and for cooking and transportation. It also is used in the industrial production of plastics.

  • Butanes are used as feedstock in the refining of petroleum and production of petrochemicals. They are also used in gasoline, the production of plastics and synthetic rubber, and for light fuels.

  • HGL beyond butanes (pentane and larger compounds) are used in gasoline, as ethanol denaturants, and as research and industrial solvents.

  • Other HGL include olefins, which are used as industrial feedstock for the production of plastics, artificial rubber, paints and solvents, and various resins.
